The picturesque town of Ballina will play host to Australia’s largest FREE coastal country music festival over the 2011 October long-weekend. The Ballina Coastal Country Music Festival is not just an event for country music fans, but also a fantastic opportunity for locals and visitors to enjoy an amazing weekend full of free entertainment and activities for the whole family, in one of the most beautiful regions on the north coast.

Some of country music’s best and brightest will descend on Ballina’s CBD; with many of the towns best known venues hosting free gigs for the public. The local and national artists line-up so far includes: Graham Rodger, 8 Ball Aitken, Chris Cook, Round Mountain Girls, The Bostocks, Perch Creek Family, Jug Band, Christian Power Lonesome Train, R.M.G, Vanessa Lea & Road Train, Ray Essery’s Bush Poets, Clay Blyth, Dan Hannaford, The Barkers Vale Brothers, Bo Jenkins, Kathryn Jones, Rod Brandt, The Re-Mains and Uncle Bob’s Jug Band, with more to be announced.

In addition Buskers will line River Streets CBD, giving the area an electrifying atmosphere of fun and musical creativity. A cash prize-pool of $1000 is on offer for the best Buskers, including a People’s Choice prize. Buskers who would like to participate in the 2011 Ballina Coastal Country Music Festival are invited to submit a Buskers Application Form (Busking App BCCMF) by Friday September 2 for consideration. Applications will be considered after this date and until 16 September, subject to suitability.

One of Australia’s biggest names in country music, Troy Cassar-Daley, will also head to the Shire over the long-weekend to perform on Sunday October 2 at the NEW Lennox Head Cultural & Community Centre.

This event started as a ‘dream’ for local resident Carol Stacey who believed that country music had a place in the coastal community and that a Festival would provide a sustainable event for the Shire. This dream is now reality as we count down the weeks and days until the Festival commences.

But the long-weekend festivities don’t stop with the festival, the area will be transformed over the October long-weekend for what is being touted as Ballina Shire’s ‘Big’ October Long Weekend – other events include:

• - Ballina Boast and Leisure Show (all proceeds go to Ballina Marine Rescue)
• - North Coast Fishing Bonanza
• - Ballina Island Paddle Challenge (all proceeds go to Surf Lifesaving)
• - Ballina Rotary Duck Race (all proceeds go to Rotary)

The Ballina Coastal Country Music Festival runs from Saturday October 1 to Monday October 3 2011, plus a number of shows on Friday September 30 prior to the Festival officially commencing in Ballina Shire. There is NO COVER CHARGE or entry fees to see over 35 Festival bands and artists perform live within the Ballina CBD (Troy Cassar-Daley and supports acts excluded).
